Kitty Alvarado

Veronica Kitty Alvarado, better known as Kitty, is a journalist and Southern California native who grew up on her family’s Quarter Horse ranch in Southwest Riverside County. After the 9/11 terrorists attacks, Kitty left a successful career as a hair and makeup artist to pursue her life’s calling of becoming a reporter and serve her community. Kitty completed the Print and Broadcast Journalism certificate program at UCLA, earned two APTRA certificates in reporting and anchoring and has since been asked to return to mentor aspiring journalists. With hard work and determination she climbed the ladder at a start up news station in the Inland Empire where she had the opportunity to cover some of Southern California’s most important stories including: the Esperanza Fire that killed 5 firefighters, the devastating October 2007 wildfires where a record one million people were evacuated from their homes, Soboba Indian Reservation shootings, May Day immigration marches, and the economic crisis and several CAMP raids on marijuana grow operations. The stories she’s most proud of, didn’t get her accolades or awards, in fact the result of her most favorite report is that many families that would have gone hungry on Thanksgiving received a basket with a turkey and all the trimmings. Kitty currently contributes to The Valley News as a multi-media producer/reporter where she co-created the print’s first video news site. Kitty is married to her high school sweetheart and hero Paul Alvarado, a Long Beach fire captain and is most proud of her two sons Paul and Max.
